I'll admit it Facebook has ruined me for blogging. I'm sad about it because although facebook is instant gratification, I can't journal on facebook the way I would like.
So let's talk about this boy. Here is a bullet point list of the things that I notice about him.
- He loves to help. Did you read that, HE LOVES TO HELP! He will take initiative to help and jump in and do a task that needs to be done without being asked. In fact, his teacher said that he often needs reminders to finish his own work before he goes to help a friend in his class.
- As far as little brothers go he is #1. We have to remind the older two that most little siblings are "stuff ruin-ers". In other words, you build a cool airplane out of legos and they tear it apart. Things like that. Bodie doesn't do that sort of thing, ever and never really has even as a toddler!
- Bodie has been receiving little tickets at school for good behavior. They call them eagle eyes. When he collects several of them he can purchase things from a store. He always purchases something that Avery or Rowdy would like and he gives it to them. What? And it is usually something really cool and really does mean something to them. He brought Avery a stuffed tiger once (her favorite).
- He is an outstanding reader! He has just completely excelled this year in Kindergarten.
- It really does need to be mentioned again. He is a Mr. Helpy Help Helperton!
- He notices things like the rules of the road. What can I say, we are in the car a lot. One day he asked from the backseat, "What are the dots?" He wanted to know what are the dashes in the middle of the road. Then just this week he launched into a very good description about what to do when the light turns yellow. He even mentioned that if you are too close to the line when the light turn yellow you have to just go through it.
- Usually, I can get him to "use his words" when his first response to something is "no" or "I don't want to". Which really doesn't tell me the problem. For example, he needed to take a chewable ibuprofen one day and he refused and was doing everything shy of grunting at me like a caveman to say no! So, I told him you have to take the medicine so you will feel better and if there is something you want to tell me you need to say it in a sentence and not tell me just no. Mom, can't help you unless you talk. He then said very clearly, "I don't want to take the medicine because when I chew it up, it gets stuck in my teeth and it feels yucky!" Ok buddy that is very different than just NO! So, I ground up the pill and added a bit of water to the spoon and he took it like a champ. Everyone wins!
- He loves to share. Since he was little if I was getting him some crackers or something he would make sure everyone who was present was offered some. He is constantly making sure all have been offered what he has.
- He loves to play games. He plays UNO with Ron. They have quite the rivalry going on. Bodie understands the value of the "mean cards" and uses them. If Bodie wins Ron throws his cards down and says, "That's it!" and chases him through the house and tackles him and wrestles him! We are learning Checkers right now. I am thankful for my Mom who tolerates go fish and war with him.
